Gmail Priority Inbox .. Another Inbox

It's just another inbox. Seriously.

How long before people are drowning in their Priority Inbox? Will we see a 'Super Priority Inbox' in the future?

Rather than filtering emails based on sender or content, perhaps it's time to unsubscribe from a few things or just cut down on the emails you actually receive.

I agree, projects must be destroyed

Project teams have little incentive to invest in the long term operation and maintenance of the systems that they create.

Wizard's Gold

Nice rig for street riding. The colour reminds of a Kona frame I had years ago.

35 Lessons in 35 Years

My father always told me that the day we stop learning is the day we die. I wrote this as a sort of preparation for my 35th birthday last week. Some of these are poignant, others are simply trite; I attribute the latter to my growing sense of sentimentality as I age. That, and I need an editor.

A great idea if your prepared to put pen to paper and let the world know what you've learned in the 35 years you've been on this amazing planet. I was thinking of doing this but splitting in 7 aspects of my life, and 5 lessons I've learned from each aspect.

Pragmatic Brainstorming for Productivity

I find brainstorming an immensely helpful process, and I think one of the reasons it’s so commonly dismissed as a frivolity is that few people actually know how to take the outputs of brainstorming and apply them to whatever it is they’re supposed to be doing.

All too often it's the creative problem solving side of a job that takes a back seat. As long as we're billing hours or simply doing as we're told, we're told there's no need for us to indulge in such time-wasting activities such as brainstorming.

Whether you're a freelancer or part of a big company, brainstorming can yield great ideas. You just have to know how to do it right to get these great ideas!

Check out Web Worker Daily's 6 point guide to making brainstorming work.

Read Your Own Blog Or Website

But of all of the lessons I learned in the class, it was something that the instructor said to us early on that still resonates strongly with the work I produce today:

Nothing I write is sacred.

Writing has always been one of those things that I would love to do more of. At the moment I run a couple of blogs which has allowed me to exercise some of my writing skills, but not in the way I want.

Anyway, back to the main point of this. Reviewing your own old writing is just as important as reviewing the piece you're currently writing.

A good software programmer will revisit their old code and improve on it where they can. Writing is no different.

50 Must Reads

Here's a list that I'll probably argue with myself on several weeks from today. I won't say that these are the 50 best novels, but they are 50 that you should read.

Having only read a couple of books from Michael's list, I think I might take a break from my usual sci-fi and fantasy genre and indulge in some classics.

Tattoo Bikes - Rat Race

I'm such a sucker for a singlespeed mountain bike frame and these Rat Race frames Tattoo bikes are no exception. These would build up into superb little rigid singlespeeds for the winter.

If you're truly determined ...

If you're truly determined, it doesn't matter if you skip a night or two. You'll make it up in the long run. Enjoying life is important.

Great tweet by Jason Seifer. Whether you're building the next big killer app or you're working towards a personal goal, it's still important to enjoy life.

Affinity Cyclone Frameset

I love the details on this frame, especially the extended headtube to allow for barspins.
